At Aalto University’s Open Otaniemi Day on 25 October 2025, visitors had the chance to explore the future of autonomous transport through a lecture by Petri Manninen from Aalto University, who presented insights from the ROADVIEW project.
In his talk on what kind of 3D data autonomous robots and cars collect, Petri discussed how self-driving vehicles gather detailed 3D data from their surroundings and how this information could be applied beyond mobility. For example, to address societal challenges in cities and municipalities. The lecture, held in Finnish, was designed for both young audiences and adults, offering an accessible introduction to the world of autonomous systems and smart urban data.
The event was part of Aalto Open Days, an annual celebration where the university community and their families explore the vibrant Otaniemi campus and discover the latest advances in science, art and technology.
