At the end of 2025, ROADVIEW successfully demonstrated its Weather-Aware X-in-the-Loop (XiL) test system, bringing extreme weather into the laboratory to make automated driving safer.
By connecting real vehicle components and even entire vehicles to a virtual environment, the simulation recreates rain, fog, snow and challenging road conditions, which are directly injected in the real control units of the vehicle. This allows engineers to test perception and control systems safely and repeatedly, identifying weaknesses and improving performance without waiting for real storms.
A highlight of the demonstration was the virtualisation of four European test tracks in France, Germany, Turkey and Finland, with realistic sensor behaviour and weather disturbances incorporated into the simulation.
This milestone shows how advanced lab testing can prepare automated vehicles for real-world challenges and move us closer to safer mobility in all conditions.
